Ahh a golf simulator, something many of us dream about having in our homes. Enjoying the gorgeous views from the tee without having to travel? Yes please! Having a way to practice on your game 24/7? Tell me more!

There is no surprise that the popularity of golfing simulator software and equipment has skyrocketed, not only because of the limitations placed upon us due to the COVID-19 pandemic but also due to the fantastic range of benefits. But this means that more and more people are being exposed to a fun and easy way of improving their game, or simply play the sport that they love at a time that suits them.

When you think of an indoor golf simulator, you picture lavish villas with a home gym, pool, and cinema, right? Well, what if we were to tell you that you can incorporate a golfing simulator into your spare room today? That’s right, even if you think your room is too small for one of these excellent pieces of equipment, we’re here to tell you that you may be in for a surprise! Find out our ideal room size recommendation in this blog.

Find out our ideal room size recommendation for golfing simulators in this blog.

How high should my room be for golf simulators?

If you’re an avid golf player, you will know how high your swing will be off the ground at its highest point. This is a crucial judgment so you can be sure that your club doesn’t hit the ceiling mid-swing, restricting your movement and performance. Of course, the taller player you are, the higher this will be, so it is worth keeping that in mind. It is important to make sure you have a free swing for every shot, especially if you are trying to work on your game. This ensures that you are getting as much power on the shot as possible, which is especially crucial on any shots on the fairway.

We recommend that your room is at least 8’2” (2.49m) in height, but ideally, the room should be 10 feet (3.05m) tall to be as safe as possible.

How wide should my room be?

Perhaps surprisingly, your room should always be wider than it is tall if you are looking to install a golfing simulator. Although the actual curtain will certainly not cover the full distance of the room, there are some other things to consider…

For example, if you invite any friends over that are the opposite hand to you, will they be able to play with the same freedom that you are? Perhaps you are a proud player (aren’t we all) and don’t want to consider any potential miss hits? These are all things to consider before you look to install a golfing simulator in your home. We suggest that your room should be 15 feet (4.57m) wide, giving you the appropriate room to take all of these matters into account. After all, we’re sure you want to have the best possible experience when using your device for indoor golf

How deep should my room be?

The depth of your room is dependent on the choice of which indoor golf simulator you decide on. For a standard golf simulator, we recommend a depth of 15 feet. This allows you to have a distance of 1 foot from the wall to the screen for safety, then a further 8 feet from the screen to the tee. You should also look for at least 6 feet of safe space behind you to ensure that no onlookers will get a nasty surprise from your club!

What are the minimum room requirements for a golf simulator?

We can install simulators in rooms as narrow as 3.5m if you plan to play with a group of all right-handed or all left-handed players. However, the beauty of our trackman launch monitor is that is can be moved easily to accommodate different players. We wouldn’t recommend it mid round of course, but you can do it for people practicing or playing at different times.

We would recommend a minimum room length of 6m and a width of 5.3m. Alongside the recommended measurements mentioned above, this will reduce the likelihood of any injuries – we don’t want any furniture being destroyed.

Using your golf simulator outside

Of course, if it gets too hot for you inside, you may decide to take your golf simulator outside, which is easy enough to do! The recommended distances between the launch monitor and the golf ball are the same as indoors – around 9 feet.

Without an impact screen, your golf simulator, just like one from Trackman, can track your ball for a much longer distance than if you were outside and of course, you have no restrictions as to how hard and fast you want to swing!

Your outdoor golfing set-up, however, should be situated in an area within your outside space, such as your garden, to allow you to let your golf ball fly through the sky!

But don’t worry if you don’t have this space available, you can put together a netted area with similar dimensions to what you have in your dedicated golfing room inside- your golfing simulator will resolve any bumps in the ground by auto leveling. So, if it’s hot inside, you can take your golf simulator outside and when it’s too chilly out, you can go back inside- the world is your oyster!
