Are Trackman Golf Simulators Distances Accurate?

Are Trackman Golf Simulators Distances Accurate?

If you are considering a golf simulator, you will probably wonder how accurate their distance tracking really is.

As a key part of practice and a factor to consider for improving your game – it’s not something you can overlook.

But how accurate is the TrackMan golf simulator?

What tech do the TrackMan golf simulators use?

All of these technologies within TrackMan, including OERT, radar, and photometric technology, combine and give the most accurate tracking – both on-screen and in the data.

Technology of the TrackMan iO

Tracking technology – Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) for state-of-art accuracy

Radar sensors - 24 GHz ultra-low-power radar for optimal speed and distance measurement

Camera sensors - Dual camera system:

·         High-speed (up to 4,600 fps) camera for club and ball tracking giving superior angular data and measured 3D spin

·         Patented alignment camera for fast automatic target alignment

Technology of the TrackMan 4

Tracking technology - Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT)

Radar sensors - Dual Radar systems, synchronized in time and space:

·         A short-range, ultra-high-resolution system, focused on putting, club and impact data

·         A long-range, high-accuracy ball-tracking system

Camera sensors - Radar Synchronized High-Speed Optics

Technology designed to get it right

The TrackMan simulators are designed to utilise camera and tracking technology that is able to detect the landing point of your golf ball within 1½ yards!

But what specific technology is this and how does it help practicing golfers?

Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT)

The launch unit uses OERT to measure club, launch and ball-flight data from a database of over 1 billion to track the ball flight with as much accuracy as standard outdoor golf.

OERT technology is used for short and long-distance ball tracking, giving golfers next-level accuracy and a clear understanding of their training needs.

Doppler radar

Doppler radar has been widely used since the 1960s in the military to track missiles and projectiles – and now TrackMan is using it to track your golf ball during training.

Doppler radar uses microwave pulses sent from the simulator to the ball and back again, to track the movement of the ball. This is how it measures the distance your ball will have travelled.

The TrackMan measures the golf swing and the entire flight of the ball from impact to landing while displaying its 3D trajectory in real-time and, when combined with OERT technology, gives incredible accuracy - measuring the landing position with an accuracy of 1 foot at 100 yards.

Photometric technologies

Unlike radar, which uses radio waves to determine the distance and velocity of the targets, photometric technologies involve a camera system that tracks the flight of the balls.

High-speed shots are taken as the ball accelerates towards the screen, which is then used to analyse factors like direction, distance, spin, speed, and angles.

Why choose the TrackMan Golf Simulator if you want accuracy?

While all golf simulator technology can experience lags or the occasional error, it is widely accepted that the TrackMan is the most accurate of all – thanks to the combination of radar and photometric technologies used within the golf launch monitors.

This combination gives the most accurate tracking on the market, mapping each shot's 3D trajectory in real-time and giving golfers instantaneous feedback, allowing for player progression in previously unheard-of detail and specificity.

The accuracy of the TrackMan is so trusted, that a multitude of organisations and players use it, including:

·         The 2022-2023 PGA Tour & USPGA

·         Professionals like Justin Thomas, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson

·         Sky Sports

·         The Royal and Ancient Golf Society at St Andrew's

To name but a few!
